I caught myself thinking about something I had never questioned before.
Whenever people talk about using Bitcoin in DeFi, the conversation almost always starts with where the BTC is being moved. Which bridge? Which custodian? Which wrapped asset?
After spending time reading @babylonlabs_io, it feels like Trustless Bitcoin Vaults are trying to start the conversation somewhere else entirely.
Instead of treating Bitcoin's movement as the foundation, they treat Bitcoin's verifiable state as the foundation.
That sounds like a small distinction until you sit with it for a while.
If a protocol can independently verify the condition of native BTC, then usefulness no longer has to begin with giving someone else control over it. The role of trust becomes smaller because verification carries more of the responsibility.
To me, that's the part of BTCFi worth paying attention to.
New products will always come and go. Better yields will come and go. But improving the assumptions that every future application is built on could end up being the more important contribution.
Maybe the next chapter for Bitcoin isn't about making it move faster across ecosystems.
Maybe it's about making every interaction with it require fewer assumptions.
