The more I explore @babylonlabs_io, the less I think Trustless Bitcoin Vaults are about borrowing.
What stands out to me is how much attention is given to what happens before any BTC-backed action is allowed to move forward.
In many BTCFi designs, the hardest part isn't creating new financial products. It's proving that the Bitcoin behind them is actually in the state everyone assumes it is. If that proof depends on a custodian or a bridge operator, you're still placing trust in an intermediary.
Babylon takes a different direction.
The idea behind TBV is to make Bitcoin itself the anchor of truth, allowing verification to replace assumptions wherever possible. That changes the conversation from "Who is holding the BTC?" to "Can the system independently verify the BTC?"
I like that shift because it focuses less on adding complexity and more on reducing the amount of blind trust users have to accept.
For Bitcoin holders, that might be the most valuable improvement of all. Sometimes stronger infrastructure isn't about doing more—it's about asking people to trust less.
