Recently, the price of Bitcoin Cash (BCH) has significantly surged, drawing the attention of investors. At the end of June, BCH was priced around $94, but it has rapidly exceeded $290 in a short period, recording the highest growth rate among long-standing digital assets.
Today, we’ll look into the reasons behind this rapid rise and examine the future outlook for Bitcoin Cash.
Overview of the Bitcoin Cash Project

Bitcoin Cash was created on August 1, 2017, through a hard fork from the Bitcoin blockchain. At the time, Bitcoin was undergoing a SegWit (Segregated Witness) software upgrade, which separated digital signature data from blocks to optimize storage capacity.
In opposition to SegWit, major mining groups like Bitmain and ViaBTC independently launched Bitcoin Cash. Wu Jihan, the well-known CEO of Bitmain, played a key role in leading the fork.
Bitcoin Cash retained the Proof-of-Work (PoW) mechanism while increasing the block size to 8MB, enabling faster and cheaper transaction processing. These features once helped BCH climb to the fourth-highest market cap globally. However, with the rise of newer projects, it has since dropped to around 14th place.
Notably, BCH was distributed at a 1:1 ratio to Bitcoin holders at the time of the fork. In the 2017 bull market, its price exceeded $3,650, but it gradually declined and once dropped below $70. Additional hard forks, such as Bitcoin SV and Bitcoin ABC (now eCash), occurred later, but market reactions were limited.
Key Drivers Behind BCH’s Recent Surge

The primary catalyst for the recent BCH price surge was its listing on EDX Markets (EDXM), a new exchange launched by major Wall Street financial institutions.
Following the collapse of FTX, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) intensified regulations and filed lawsuits against Binance. In response, EDXM was established to offer a compliant platform backed by traditional finance.
Currently, EDXM supports trading for only four cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash. While Bitcoin and Ethereum are already large-cap assets with limited room for speculative manipulation, and Litecoin has faced delisting risks on certain exchanges, Bitcoin Cash emerged as a more accessible option for investor inflows.
Strengths and Future Potential of Bitcoin Cash

Bitcoin Cash has a maximum supply of 21 million coins, enhancing its scarcity value. It also avoids classification as a security token, enabling unrestricted trading. Compared to Bitcoin, BCH offers faster transaction speeds and lower fees, which strengthens its competitiveness.
Although it’s uncertain whether BCH can reclaim its past glory, positive developments like the EDXM listing may bring renewed attention. Strategic approaches will depend on future price trends and global market sentiment.
