Banque de France officials have endorsed the central bank digital currency (CBDC) as the foundation for a new global monetary system. First Deputy Governor Denis Beau sees two paths for CBDC development: creating common standards and interoperability between wholesale CBDCs and legacy systems, or developing regional or global CBDC platforms, as promoted by the IMF and BIS. Beau cited the successful Project Mariana, which explored automated market makers, as an example. He also called for increased public sector support for the private sector to unlock blockchain's potential while managing risks.
