Industry groups are pressing an Illinois court to rule quickly on the legality of a 0.2% tax on digital assets that was set to start in January 2027 but has been paused until July 1, 2027. The Crypto Council for Innovation, the Blockchain Association, the Digital Chamber and the Illinois Blockchain Association filed a joint request in Sangamon County Circuit Court for an expedited summary‑judgment schedule, aiming for a decision by March. They argue that resolving the tax’s lawfulness promptly is needed even while enforcement is delayed. In related news, the Blockchain Association’s CEO Summer Mersinger is stepping down this Friday, with former CEO Kristin Smith taking over as interim head.
