2008 - Whitepaper Publication:In October 2008, an anonymous person or group using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto published a whitepaper titled "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System."

2009 - Genesis Block:On January 3, 2009, Nakamoto mined the first block of the Bitcoin blockchain, known as the "genesis block," which included the message "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks."

2010 - First Known Commercial Transaction:On May 22, 2010, a programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz made history by conducting the first known commercial transaction using Bitcoin. He paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas, a transaction now famously referred to as "Bitcoin Pizza Day."

2011 - Mt. Gox Dominance:Mt. Gox, a Japan-based Bitcoin exchange, became the dominant player in the Bitcoin market, handling a significant portion of Bitcoin trading volume. It would later face a major hack in 2014.

2013 - Bull Run and Media Attention:Bitcoin's price experienced a significant surge in 2013, reaching over $1,000 for the first time in November.

2014 - Mt. Gox Collapse:In February 2014, Mt. Gox filed for bankruptcy after losing over 850,000 Bitcoins in a hacking attack. This was one of the largest security breaches in the history of cryptocurrency exchanges.

2017 - The Bull Market:Bitcoin's price experienced an unprecedented surge in late 2017, reaching an all-time high of nearly $20,000 in December.

2017 - Bitcoin Forks:In August 2017, Bitcoin underwent a contentious hard fork, resulting in the creation of Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

2020 - Bitcoin Halving:Bitcoin undergoes a process called "halving" approximately every four years. In May 2020, the third halving event occurred, reducing the block rewards for miners from 12.5 BTC to 6.25 BTC.

2021 - El Salvador Adopts Bitcoin as Legal Tender: In September 2021, El Salvador became the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, allowing it to be used for everyday transactions alongside the US dollar.
