On April 13th, 2023, the EOS Network Foundation (ENF) announced the beta launch of the EOS EVM mainnet, which aims to bridge the gap between two prominent blockchain ecosystems – EOS and Ethereum. The EOS EVM is an emulation of the Ethereum Virtual Machine, which is deployed as a smart contract on the EOS blockchain, allowing for the execution of Solidity-based decentralized applications (dApps) on EOS.
While Solidity is widely used by web3 developers, Ethereum’s scalability issues, such as slow transaction speeds and high fees, have hindered mass adoption of dApps on its blockchain. EOS EVM is designed to overcome these limitations by providing faster transaction speeds, lower gas fees, and greater scalability, while leveraging the extensive resources of the Ethereum ecosystem.
The development of EOS EVM spanned over 12 months, with contributions from various stakeholders within the EOS ecosystem. The EOS EVM aims to become the most performant and compatible EVM on the market, with one-second block intervals and support for over 800 swaps per second.
According to Yves La Rose, Founder and CEO of the EOS Network Foundation, the goal of EOS EVM is to create an interoperable future where the gaps between blockchains, developers, and end-users are bridged. With EOS EVM, Ethereum developers and users can easily take advantage of the low fees, fast speeds, and reliability of the EOS Network, thereby enabling the EOS Network to complement Ethereum and accelerate its mass adoption.
The beta launch of EOS EVM coincides with the announcement of EOS Network Ventures’ commitment to invest $20 million in GameFi and EOS EVM projects, which will further the growth and adoption of the EOS ecosystem.
For technical users interested in using the EOS EVM or deploying smart contracts, various resources are available, including the EOS EVM Overview, EOS EVM Contract account, Ethereum Compatible RPC Endpoint, EOS EVM Block Explorer, Token Bridge, and more.
Overall, the launch of EOS EVM marks a significant milestone in the EOS ecosystem’s development, further enhancing its potential to become a leading blockchain platform for the next generation of web3 innovation.
