Walrus is a well-aligned technical answer to the move from archival, immutable storage toward living storage: it couples an efficient erasure-coding engine (RedStuff) with repair mechanics and on-chain coordination so availability and cost can track behavior instead of ideology. That shift is meaningful for AI agents, rollups, games, and any app where data is actively re-used. The return is lower cost and faster hot-data performance; the tradeoff is greater operational and economic complexity — especially around sudden access spikes and incentive robustness.
