No one forgets how to drive. In fact, most drivers are doing their best. But the moment the shared rules disappear, the whole thing turns into hesitation, guessing, and little bursts of aggression. People inch forward, then slam brakes, then wave someone through, then two cars move at once. It’s not a lack of intelligence. It’s a lack of coordination.
That’s the simplest way to understand why Fabric Protocol talks so much about coordination instead of acting like intelligence alone will solve everything.

Think of it like insurance and traffic enforcement. Nobody loves tickets. But the existence of consequences changes behavior. A system where “bad actors” can’t be punished ends up becoming a system that quietly encourages bad behavior, because the cheaters scale faster.
Another part of Fabric that’s easy to miss is the “skills spreading” idea.
The whitepaper leans on a striking contrast: humans learn slowly; robots can share skills quickly. Once a robot gains a capability, it can be distributed like software.
That sounds exciting—and it is—but it also raises the stakes.
Because if a useful skill can spread instantly, a dangerous mistake can spread instantly too. A buggy update. A poorly tested behavior. A “small” change in how a robot handles crowded spaces. If that rolls out to thousands of machines, you don’t get one incident—you get a pattern.
