According to blockchain security firm CertiK's quarterly report, the third quarter of 2023 was the most financially damaging of the year, with 184 security incidents resulting in the loss of over $699 million in digital assets. Private key compromises were the most damaging, resulting in over $204 million in losses across 14 incidents. The report also noted the prevalence of exit scams and oracle manipulation, with 93 exit scam incidents taking over $55 million and 38 oracle manipulation incidents taking over $16 million in crypto. The exploit of cross-chain protocol Mixin Network contributed the most to making September the biggest month for crypto exploits in 2023, with $200 million worth of assets drained.
