[October Returns: Bitcoin wallet from ten years ago wakes up, moves over $50 million in BTC]
btcparser.com pointed out that in October 2023, many early Bitcoin holders activated their idle wallets in large numbers and made large transfers. This follows strong activity in September.
The most high-profile transaction this week was the dispersion of 860 BTC into 86 different wallets that had been dormant for nine years since their creation on January 3, 2014. This time, 10 BTC were transferred to each wallet, which clearly belonged to the same holder based on the timing and method of the transaction.

On-chain analysis also verified the single ownership of these wallets. All wallets transfer their funds entirely to P2SH (Pay to Script Hash) addresses. In the same week, another address created in August 2014 was activated and 46 BTC was transferred; another address created in July 2013 with 504.99 BTC was transferred on October 4.

Blockchain analysis also found that two early Bitcoin wallets from 2012 were reactivated on October 6, with 200 BTC and 226 BTC transferred respectively. Both transactions demonstrate a low level of privacy.
As October progresses, we may witness more movement of early-stage idle Bitcoin. While many holders remain committed to long-term holding strategies, it now appears that some have opted for new strategies.
