To be honest...most "compliance" in DeFi has always felt like an afterthought bolted on after the fact which is why Newton Protocol's Mainnet Beta caught my attention this week. They shipped VaultKit, an SDK that lets vault builders actually encode their rules so Newton checks them before a transaction settles, not after. Once it passes, you get a signed attestation that's publicly verifiable. Simple idea, but it flips the usual order of operations. What gets me is how obvious this becomes once you think about where things are headed. Institutions and AI agents are both moving onchain fast, and neither one works with "someone reviews it Monday morning." An agent executing trades at 3am doesn't pause for a compliance officer. #Ethereum So you either build the check into the transaction itself, or you're pretending a system built for humans still works for machines. That's really the bigger question for Web3 and AI infra broadly everyone's optimizing for speed and autonomy, but guardrails added after deployment just don't hold once things move this fast.
