I’ve lost count of how many privacy chains I’ve watched try this. Same pitch every cycle: institutions will come once the ledger stops shouting every balance and transfer to the world. Then the real friction shows up. Proofs get heavy. Developers slow down. Liquidity never quite arrives. Regulators still want a window in, so you end up bolting on selective disclosure that feels like it’s arguing with the original design.

Dusk has been sitting in that same space for a while. Layer-1 built around confidential smart contracts and their XSC standard for security tokens. The idea seems to be giving issuers the controls they actually need—force transfers, corporate actions, limited auditor access—while keeping the rest private. On paper it looks like someone finally designed for the constraints instead of pretending they don’t exist.

I’m not sure it changes much. I’ve seen the pattern too many times. The cryptography holds up, the compliance language is careful, and still the chain stays quiet. Writing private contracts isn’t the same as deploying another token. Performance never feels as easy as the transparent chains people already use. And every cycle leaves another project that solved an interesting problem no one was quite ready to move real volume onto.
