Title:
Gold at $4,126 After Midterms: Is The 8 Out of 13 Stat Real? + Bank Forecasts For 2027
Article:
Gold is back above $4,000 and trading near $4,126 after Democrats took both houses of Congress.
Everyone is sharing one stat: "Gold rose after 8 of 13 midterm elections since 1974."
Is it true? Yes, but it's misleading.
Here is what the data REALLY says:
1. It Depends On How You Measure
- Kitco (12 months later): Rose 8/13 times (61.5%), avg +13.7%
- World Gold Council (6 months later): Rose 62% of times, but avg only +2%
- Bullion Trading (6 months): Rose 11/14 times (79%), avg +6%
- Pepperstone (1 day later): Gold FELL after the last 5 midterms, avg -0.97%
If you remove 1978, when gold jumped +90.3%, the Kitco average drops from +13.7% to just +7.3%.
The longer the window, the less the election matters. Inflation and rates matter more.
2. The REAL Signal: Did Power Change?
This is the most important part:
- When majority changed in at least one house: Gold rose 7 out of 8 times, avg +15.4%
- When majority did NOT change: Gold rose only 1 out of 5 times!
In 2026, Democrats won BOTH houses. This is similar to 2006, after which gold rose +28.3%.
3. What Do Big Banks Expect?
End of 2026:
Goldman Sachs: $4,650
UBS: $4,600
Citi / JPMorgan: $4,500
Bank of America: $4,000
Median: $4,500 = +9% from now
2027:
Goldman / UBS / JPMorgan: $5,400
Citi / Morgan Stanley: $5,000
Median: $5,000 = +21% from now
Warning: Banks have been DOWNG RADING targets all year. JPMorgan cut from $6,000 to $4,500. They follow price, they don't predict it.
4. Key Levels For Traders
Resistance: $4,155 then $4,220
Critical Support: $3,944 - $3,940
Break below $3,944 opens $3,870
My View:
Above $4,155 = Bullish to $4,220
Between $3,944 - $4,155 = Range, wait
Below $3,944 = Bearish
For long-term investors, the setup is positive for 2026-2027.
For day traders, don't buy because of election news. Wait for breakout.
