Spain's National Securities Market Commission confirmed there will be no extensions or waivers for crypto firms that missed the July 1 MiCA deadline. The chair said they are in direct contact with organizations that still lack EU licensing, and the transitional period will end exactly as scheduled.

Other EU member states took similar stances — France and Germany also signaled strict enforcement. Unlicensed platforms will need to halt onboarding new EU users and restrict services for existing accounts. Major exchanges that didn't secure approval are already scaling back operations across the region, with some reportedly preparing to exit specific markets entirely.

This is the clearest signal yet that Europe's crypto regulatory framework means business. The MiCA framework was designed to bring clarity, but the enforcement timeline is punishing for firms that gambled on last-minute approvals.
