Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin has sued Kalshi for allegedly running an illegal gambling platform in Arkansas. Griffin said on Wednesday that Kalshi exposes users to excessive wagering, financial losses, depression and other mental health harms. Kalshi has argued in other lawsuits that federal derivatives regulation covers Kalshi's event contracts, exempting the contracts from state gambling laws. Utah filed criminal charges against Kalshi and two executives last week. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has separately sued at least 10 states over jurisdiction over prediction markets.
