$BTC fell to about $75,700 on 4 Nov — then bounced back above $80,000 within a day. That is not how a real breakdown behaves.
Here is what actually happened, and why I read this dip as panic, not a trend change.
What drove the fall
Early US midterm results pointed to Democrats winning both houses of Congress. Traders feared crypto-friendly legislation could be delayed, so $BTC slid to around $75,700 — a seven-week low. $ETH and the rest of the market fell with it.
What drove the recovery
• Stocks rallied hard, oil eased, and buyers stepped back in. $BTC traded at $80,564 on 5 Nov (CoinGecko, 04:00 UTC), up 5.4% in 24 hours. The 24-hour range was $75,695 to $81,004.
• The squeeze did the heavy lifting: nearly $975 million in crypto positions were liquidated in 24 hours (CoinGlass), and about 59% of them were shorts. For $BTC alone, $396 million was liquidated — and 78% of that was shorts. That is forced buying, not just fresh conviction.
• ETF flows turned: US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $74.6 million net on 4 Nov (Farside), ending three straight days of outflows. But flows were mixed — Fidelity's FBTC drew $236.7 million while BlackRock's IBIT lost $201.2 million.
• The whole market agreed: $ETH jumped 7.5% to $2,428, total crypto market cap rose 5.1% to $2.79 trillion, and the Fear & Greed Index returned to neutral at 50.
My stance — and what would prove it wrong
My read: this was a panic dip, not a trend change. The speed of the recovery, the short squeeze, and the return of ETF inflows all point the same way.
But I could be wrong. Two scenarios, both possible:
• If $BTC holds above $80,000 and ETF inflows continue, the recovery could extend — analysts quoted in the press point to the $81,300–$82,000 area above.
• If it slips back below $79,000 and ETF outflows resume, this was only a squeeze, and the dip is not done.
One day of panic does not make a bear market — but one day of recovery does not prove a bull market either. The next signal to watch is the ETF flows, not the price alone.
Do you think the $75,700 dip was the bottom, or just a pause before another leg down?
