Bitcoin’s hashrate just reclaimed a seven-month high — even as big miners chase AI.
On October 22, 2026, BlocksBridge Consulting’s Miner Weekly said Bitcoin’s seven-day average hashrate climbed back above 1 zettahash per second (1,000 EH/s), the highest reading since March 3, 2026. That rebound landed while publicly listed miners reported about a 23% drop in realized hashrate as they redirect machines toward AI and HPC, with AI-related revenue up roughly 52% quarter over quarter.
Difficulty is not giving anyone a break. It rose 5.92% on October 16, 2026 (to about 140.58T), and BlocksBridge projects another ~5.16% lift at the next retarget around late October — near an 11.4% climb across two epochs if that holds. Smaller operators appear to be absorbing displaced ASICs; for $BTC security that means more hash still online, and for remaining miners a tougher share of rewards.
