Buying a wrapped token is not the same as minting it Buying and minting are different actions. **Buying** usually means acquiring tokens already in circulation from another holder through a market. Ownership changes, but the purchase does not necessarily create new supply or initiate a new backing transaction.
**Minting** means creating new units according to the token’s issuance rules. For a wrapped asset, the process may require depositing or verifying the corresponding backing asset before the representation is issued. The precise process depends on the product.
**Burning** removes units from usable supply and may form part of a redemption process, depending on the design. These steps should be checked against the asset’s official documentation.
The distinction matters when interpreting supply changes. A trade is not evidence that new tokens were minted, and a reported mint should be verified against the documented issuance process and on-chain records.
Research the token contract, mint and burn rules, backing mechanism, and redemption conditions. A symbol alone cannot explain how a unit was created or what supports it.
