SEC comments close, Zcash makes its upgrade call, a LayerZero unlock lands and Solana switches engines on October 20 and 21. Here's what each one means, and what to watch before the Fed on October 28.
🗓️ Most weeks have one big date. This one has four in two days, and $BTC is sitting right in the middle of them.
Tuesday and Wednesday are packed with regulation, upgrades and supply. Then the Fed meets the following week. Here's the calendar, and what each date can and can't change.
🏛️ Tuesday, October 20: three events on one day.
First, the SEC's comment period on "Regulation Crypto Assets" ends. It's a proposed framework for how projects can raise money by selling crypto assets. It's not in effect, and the SEC may revise it after feedback.
Second, Zcash developers make their final decision on the NU7 mainnet upgrade, according to CoinTurk. NU7 has been live on the test network since October 4, and it cuts block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. If testing goes as expected, the target activation date is November 5. That's the one $ZEC holders are watching.
Third, about 23.63 million ZRO tokens unlock for LayerZero's core contributors and strategic partners, per DefiLlama data cited by crypto.news. The token has reportedly more than doubled since early September, helped by buybacks. An unlock adds supply, but it doesn't automatically mean a drop.
⚡ Wednesday, October 21: Solana swaps its engine.
Anza announced that Alpenglow goes live on mainnet at about 14:50 UTC. It replaces the consensus system $SOL has used since day one and targets finality of about 150 milliseconds, down from about 12.8 seconds. Only the first half, called Votor, ships that day. Regular users reportedly don't need to do anything.
💳 Last week of October: Samsung Wallet adds USDC.
Eligible US Galaxy users get USDC transfers inside Samsung Wallet, according to Samsung. No specific day has been announced, so it's one to watch rather than one to time.
🏦 Wednesday, October 28: the Fed decides.
The meeting runs October 27 and 28, with rates at 3.75% to 4.00% after September's hike. According to Binance News, October hike odds sit near 15%, with December near 90%. Binance News also points to big-tech earnings as the next test for the AI trade.
🧠 Why this matters more than it sounds.
These events are very different kinds of risk. One is regulation, two are network upgrades, one is token supply, and one is macro. Only the last one has a record of moving the whole market.
Binance News notes that $BTC has traded closely with rate expectations this month. It also points out that one session doesn't prove a pattern. So, the safe read is that the Fed is the main event, and the Tuesday and Wednesday dates mostly matter for the coins attached to them.
None of these dates is a guaranteed price trigger, and dates can slip.
✅ What this means for you
If you trade $BTC, expect volatility around the Fed week and around big headlines. Smaller size and defined risk are habits, not predictions.
If you're watching from the sidelines, use this as a map, not a signal. Write down which date matters for the coins you follow and check them one by one.
If you hold $ZEC or $SOL, know your own date. Tuesday's decision and Wednesday's switch are about upgrades, and an upgrade doesn't guarantee a price move.
🟢 Bullish scenario
The SEC feedback period passes quietly, Zcash confirms its date, Solana switches cleanly, the unlock gets absorbed, and the Fed sounds patient on October 28.
🔴 Risk scenario
An upgrade slips or hits problems, the unlock adds selling pressure, and the Fed sounds firmer than markets expect, which has weighed on risk assets this month.
👀 Three things to watch
1️⃣ Tuesday, October 20
Do Zcash developers confirm NU7, and how does the market handle the ZRO unlock?
2️⃣ Wednesday, October 21
Does Solana's switch go through in one step and keep the network stable afterward?
3️⃣ Wednesday, October 28
Does the Fed sound patient or firm, and do December hike odds change?
💡 The key takeaway
The calendar is busy, but only some dates move prices. Most of them move the coins attached to them, and the Fed moves the rest.
The question was never whether a week can hold many events, because this one clearly does. The real question is which date is a real catalyst, and which is only noise.
That is the part worth watching.
