The former MakerDAO ecosystem. A new token. A very different price tag. Is the market overlooking something?
Let's talk about $SKY.
🏛️ 1. THE MAKER CONNECTION
$SKY isn't some random new DeFi project. It is the evolution of MakerDAO, the established protocol behind DAI, now transitioning toward the USDS stablecoin ecosystem.
Maker built a major position in decentralised lending, stablecoins and collateral management. Sky is carrying that legacy forward.
🔄 2. THE DIRECT TOKEN REPLACEMENT
The migration gives MKR holders the option to upgrade at a fixed rate of:
1 MKR = 24,000 SKY
That means SKY isn't simply a similarly named project trying to recreate Maker's success. It is the successor governance token of the same evolving ecosystem. The upgrade is optional, and MKR can also be converted back to SKY under the protocol's migration mechanism.
📈 3. MAKER'S HISTORIC HIGH VS SKY TODAY
Maker (MKR) reached an all-time high of approximately $6,339 in May 2021.
At the fixed 24,000 SKY-per-MKR conversion rate, that historical price is equivalent to:
$6,339 ÷ 24,000 = approximately $0.264 per SKY
If SKY trades around $0.07, that's roughly 3.8× upside to that conversion-adjusted historical reference.
But remember: this is a mathematical comparison, not a price target. The market cap, token supply, protocol economics and investor sentiment have changed. MKR's ATH does not guarantee SKY will revisit the equivalent price.
💰 4. REAL PROTOCOL REVENUE
Sky generates revenue from lending stability fees and other activities. Its ecosystem also includes USDS and the savings product sUSDS.
Protocol revenue, token buybacks and burns can potentially strengthen the economic case for holding SKY, although the effects depend on actual revenue, spending decisions and token supply dynamics.
🔥 5. WHY THERE COULD BE UPSIDE
• An established DeFi legacy rather than an untested concept.
• A major stablecoin and lending ecosystem.
• Potential value accrual through governance, buybacks and burns.
• Growth opportunities as decentralised finance and tokenised assets expand.
• A lower unit price than the old MKR token — though unit price alone does not mean undervaluation.
⚠️ WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
Competition from other stablecoins and lending protocols, regulatory pressure, collateral risks, changing stablecoin demand and weak token performance despite healthy protocol activity.
The biggest question is whether Sky's growth translates into sustainable demand and value accrual for $SKY.
🎯 MY TAKE
I think $SKY deserves a serious look. The Maker relationship, established infrastructure and evolving token economics make it more interesting than a superficial price comparison suggests.
Could $SKY revisit $0.10, $0.20 or even the conversion-adjusted $0.264 level?
Those are scenarios to investigate, not promises.
👇 Is the market underestimating $SKY, or has the Maker legacy already been priced in?
