Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, has now been added to the Central Bank of Russia’s official digital depository register, giving it regulated status to provide custody and transfer services for digital currencies.
The bank plans to start with Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT, with its first crypto products targeted for December 1, 2026.
This comes after Russia’s new cryptocurrency framework took effect in September, creating regulated channels for crypto exchanges, brokers and digital depositories.
For non-qualified investors, $BTC, $ETH and USDT are currently the main cryptocurrencies permitted through regulated intermediaries, with an annual purchase limit of ₽300,000 per intermediary.
Sberbank had also projected that regulated crypto trading in Russia could reach about ₽4 trillion ($46 billion) during the first year.
