$RON has a confirmed network event today: Ronin’s Karst upgrade is scheduled to activate on mainnet at 16:00 UTC.
Karst brings several infrastructure changes to Ronin.
The upgrade incorporates execution-layer improvements derived from Ethereum’s Fusaka architecture and updates Ronin’s core contracts to newer Optimism standards.
One important addition is the L2 Contract Manager.
Previously, upgrades to some core Ronin contracts could require Ethereum multisig transactions or client-level changes. The new system is designed to let these contracts be upgraded together within a single block, making future protocol upgrades easier to coordinate.
Karst also introduces an approximately 16.8 million gas cap per transaction. This may affect unusually large contract deployments, heavy multicalls or large batch operations.
For ordinary users, no migration or wallet action is required and Ronin expects the transition to occur without downtime.
Node operators, however, must upgrade their software. Nodes running incompatible clients will stop following the network after activation.
For $RON , the upgrade should be separated from token demand.
Technical upgrade: confirmed.
Higher network usage because of the upgrade: still needs to be measured.
Useful metrics after Karst include transactions, active applications, gas usage, validator activity and whether developers actually take advantage of the improved infrastructure.
