@MetaMask disclosed a security incident affecting part of its staking infrastructure. Here’s what we know so far: A security researcher estimates around 17,000 validators holding ~523,000 ETH, worth about $1.4B, are being exited. MetaMask has not confirmed that number. So far, the reported direct loss is much smaller: around 0.36 ETH in validator rewards was allegedly diverted to another address. MetaMask says the underlying staked ETH is protected because it doesn’t control clients’ withdrawal keys. It also says there is no immediate threat to MetaMask wallets. Ethena temporarily pulled around $135M from Morpho after the news, then redeployed the funds once it got more clarity. So far, this looks much more like a validator infrastructure compromise than a MetaMask wallet hack.
