As of September 29, 2026, Bitcoin dominance is around 57–59%, depending on the data provider. CoinGecko currently shows about 57.1%, while CoinMarketCap is around 58.6%.

📊 What that means for the market

BTC dominance = Bitcoin’s share of the total crypto market capitalization.

  • Dominance rising: capital is relatively more concentrated in BTC → altcoins can struggle against BTC.

  • Dominance falling: capital is relatively shifting toward ETH and other altcoins → usually a more favorable environment for altcoins.

  • BTC rising + dominance falling: often indicates a broad market rally with stronger altcoin participation.

  • BTC falling + dominance rising: can indicate investors are moving toward BTC relative to riskier altcoins.

Right now, the interesting part is that dominance has been below 60% and trending somewhat lower, while recent data shows increasing altcoin participation. CoinMarketCap’s Altcoin Season Index is around 63/100, and Glassnode reported that spot trading volume in altcoins has risen to nearly four times Bitcoin’s volume.

🔎 For ETH and altcoins

For the type of ETH/altcoin setups we’ve been watching, I’d watch BTC dominance + BTC price together, rather than dominance alone:

BTC stable/up + BTC.D falling → 🟢 stronger setup for altcoins

BTC stable + BTC.D rising → 🟡 BTC taking relative strength

BTC falling + BTC.D rising → 🔴 potentially difficult environment for altcoins

So, the current ~57–59% dominance level is worth watching closely, especially if it continues declining while BTC remains stable. That combination would indicate increasing relative participation outside Bitcoin.
