How Bitwise Built the Base Case ($155)

Core bet: NEAR becomes a major settlement rail for autonomous AI agents.

Assumes ~328 million agents on NEAR by 2030 (roughly 2% of a projected 16.4 billion global agents).

Each agent does 1,000 transactions/year at an average $5 value.

0.3% protocol fee accrues to token holders.

Adds other revenue (agent infra + model-related micropayments).

Applies a 50x valuation multiple → ~$251B tokenholder value.

Divided by ~1.61B circulating supply → $155.85.

The max case scales those assumptions higher (more agents, higher fees/volume) and references Visa’s 2024 payment volume (~$15.7T) and market cap as a rough ceiling.

Important note from Bitwise: They treat NEAR as somewhat binary. The “base case” is not a probability-weighted midpoint — it assumes the protocol delivers on its roadmap and agents adopt it at commercial scale.

Context vs Your View

Current price (Sept 29, 2026): roughly $4.70–$4.80

Market cap: ~$6.1–6.2B

Circulating supply: ~1.31B (essentially fully circulating / FDV ≈ market cap)

All-time high: $20.44 (Jan 2022)

Your target of $20 (reclaiming ATH) would put the market cap at roughly $26B with the current circulating supply — a solid ~4–4.5x from here and a very reasonable intermediate milestone compared with Bitwise’s far more aggressive 2030 scenarios.

The report and the ETF progress (staking-enabled, 0.75% fee) have clearly added institutional narrative fuel. Whether the AI-agent thesis actually materializes at the scale Bitwise models is the multi-year question.
