The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield has surged toward the 5% threshold, reaching about 4.97% this week, its highest level in roughly three years. The move reflects a global bond selloff driven by renewed inflation concerns, oil prices above $100 a barrel and rising expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise rates at its September meeting.

Yields eased slightly to around 4.93% on Friday after August inflation data, but the near-5% level remains a major concern for investors. Higher long-term borrowing costs could pressure stocks, housing and other rate-sensitive assets.
