Solana P-Token is not a new cryptocurrency, replacement mint or asset users need to buy.

It is a compute-optimized reimplementation of Solana’s original SPL Token Program introduced through SIMD-0266. The upgrade preserved the familiar program ID, instruction interface and account layouts, allowing existing tokens and applications to benefit without migrating balances to a new standard.

The published benchmark comparison cited by TokenToolHub shows Transfer falling from 4,645 compute units to 76 and TransferChecked falling from 6,200 to 105. Solana summarized the broader result as a 95%-98% reduction in compute use for token operations and roughly 10% more total block space.

Those are implementation-efficiency measurements, not claims that every transaction becomes 95%-98% cheaper in user-paid fees or that every application receives the same performance gain.

P-Token also does not replace Token-2022 or add Token-2022 extensions to legacy SPL tokens.
