🇺🇸 BREAKING: California AB 2409 has cleared both the Assembly and Senate — now waiting on the Governor’s signature.
The bill targets meme coins issued by (or partnered with) public officials.
**Key points:**
- Public officers & employees in California are banned from issuing meme coins
- Digital asset platforms cannot list (for CA residents) any meme coin issued on or after Jan 1, 2027 that is offered by or in partnership with a federal, state, or local public official
- Enforcement via civil action (injunction + disgorgement) by the AG or local prosecutors
This is one of the first state-level attempts to draw a clear line between public office and meme coin launches.
Will this become a template for other states… or stay limited to California?
