📰 Ethereum Is Preparing for Protection Against Quantum Attacks

Ethereum developers have presented a draft proposal to modify the validator deposit system so that the network can eventually support quantum-resistant cryptographic keys.

- Validators currently use BLS signatures. The existing deposit contract is designed for this format and does not directly support other key types.

- The new proposal would allow Ethereum to support different types and sizes of cryptographic keys.

- In the future, Ethereum could stop accepting new deposits using BLS keys, while allowing existing validators to remain in the network.

- Around 42.4 million ETH is currently staked on Ethereum, worth approximately $104 billion.

- A further protocol change would be required to allow validators to verify new types of signatures.

- Developers are also considering EIP-8141 (Frame Transactions), which could allow regular Ethereum accounts to change their cryptographic scheme without moving to a new address.

⚠️ Important: The proposal is still at an early development stage and has not been implemented on the Ethereum network.
