Groth16 on BN254 isn't new. Been around since 2016. Small proof cheap check everyone's poked at it for years. That's the whole appeal nothing left to break.
Dusk didn't build its main stack on Groth16. They went with their own take on PLONK insteat years back so you don't redo a trusted setup for every new circuit. Smart move on paper. But this year an audit caught a real bug in that verifier. Got fixed fast nobody lost anything but it's a fair reminder: new and clever carries risk the old stuff doesn't.
Dusk's EVM layer now runs plain Solidity which means the boring old Groth16/BN254 verifier just deploys and works. No rewrite no new trust assumptions just the same tired math everyone's already checked a thousand times.
I like that more than I expected to It's not asking you to trust something shiny. It's letting you skip that entirely if you want to.
