According to The Korea Herald, HKET and Yonhap, Asian equities opened mixed on Wednesday, with chip-linked names leading Seoul and Hong Kong higher while Tokyo eased ahead of Nvidia's earnings.

Tokyo's Nikkei 225 opened lower at 65,519.92, down 336.51 points or 0.51%, as chip-equipment makers weighed. Tokyo Electron fell 2.38% and Advantest slid 1.45%, while Sony rose 1.59% as of 09:38 UTC+8.

Seoul's KOSPI turned higher after a soft start, adding 61 points or 0.9% to 6,803.74 as of 9:15 a.m. local time, led by chipmakers before Nvidia's results. Samsung Electronics gained 2.14% and SK Hynix advanced 1.85%, while Hyundai Motor edged down 0.24%, LG Energy Solution shed 1.29% and Hanwha Aerospace lost 3.54%. The KOSDAQ opened at 824.77, down 2.38 points.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng opened up 124 points and traded at 25,732.19, up 0.87% as of 09:39 UTC+8. Alibaba rose more than 1%, WuXi Biologics climbed nearly 2% to a record after results, and Laopu Gold added over 1%, while TVB fell more than 3%.

Taiwan's TAIEX opened down 11.82 points at 45,157.64 before recovering to 45,274.62, up 0.23% as of 09:39 UTC+8. TSMC eased 0.42% while MediaTek jumped 2.01%.

In mainland China, the four major indexes opened mixed: the Shanghai Composite slipped 0.2%, the Shenzhen Component rose 0.11%, the ChiNext gained 0.35% and the STAR Composite added 0.19%, with PCB, CPO, innovative-drug and AI-computing themes active while gold, agriculture and coal lagged.
