🔎 Can a crypto platform prove it actually holds the assets users are owed?

That’s the idea behind Proof of Reserves (PoR).

PoR is a cryptographic auditing method that helps crypto platforms demonstrate that their reserves cover the user balances included in the audit.

🌳 How does it work?

User balance data can be organized into a Merkle Tree, allowing users to verify that their balance was included without exposing other users’ data.

🔐 The auditor can also verify the blockchain addresses holding the reported reserves.

But there’s an important point:

📸 PoR is a snapshot in time.

It can provide meaningful transparency, but it doesn’t automatically verify off-chain liabilities or guarantee that a platform is risk-free.

💡 The key is to understand what PoR proves — and what it doesn’t.
