I’ve watched enough crypto cycles to be suspicious whenever a new leaderboard campaign starts making a project look louder than it really is. Most of the time, the story is familiar: privacy, institutions, real-world assets, a new market, and somehow everyone is expected to believe the difficult part is already solved.

Dusk keeps pulling me back, though. Not because I’m convinced, but because the problem it is chasing is painfully real. Public blockchains are great at transparency, but financial markets often cannot expose every balance, position, counterparty, or piece of business logic. Dusk is building its L1 around that tension, using shielded transactions, zero-knowledge proofs, selective disclosure, and its Confidential Security Contract standard for regulated assets and confidential smart contracts.

That sounds sensible on paper. The hard part, as always, is everything around it. Privacy has to coexist with compliance. Assets need controls, settlement, identity, recovery, reporting. None of that is glamorous, and crypto has a long history of underestimating the boring parts.

I’m not sure yet where Dusk ends up. I don’t fully trust any leaderboard to tell me that. But after watching so many narratives disappear the moment real friction arrived, something about a project building around the friction itself feels different. That’s what I’m watching.
