Markets have always had a strange problem: agreeing on a trade is often easier than agreeing that the trade is actually finished.

That distinction sounds technical, but it shapes almost everything underneath modern finance. Clearing, reconciliation, custody, and settlement exist because different systems need to eventually agree on the same reality.

This is where I find Dusk interesting.

Its emphasis on deterministic settlement is less about making blockchain transactions “faster” and more about removing ambiguity from the final state of a financial transaction. DuskDS is designed so that once a block is ratified, finality is deterministic rather than dependent on waiting through possible reorganizations.

That matters because regulated markets don't simply need movement of assets. They need certainty about ownership, payment, permissions, and timing.

The deeper question is what happens when settlement stops being a separate operational phase and becomes part of the market’s shared infrastructure.

Maybe that is the real bet Dusk is making: not faster finance, but fewer moments where finance has to ask, “Are we sure this is final?”$CATI
