i keep thinking if DuskDS already settled that a regulated security belongs to me, then that should be the end of the important part.

like okay. XSC/Zedger ownership changed, DuskVM carried that regulated asset logic, DuskDS settled who actually owns the thing.

finished, right.

except apparently the trade can be finished while the security itself is still nowhere near finished with me.

and that part keeps bothering me because i keep treating settlement like the asset stops having a life afterward.

say the XSC position i already own goes through a split. nobody bought it from me. nobody sold me more of it. DuskDS didn't suddenly become unsure who the holder was.

i was already the holder. that part was settled.

which feels backwards.

“the trade finished. the security didn't.”

because from my side i already bought it. DuskDS already stopped the ownership question from floating around.

so how can that same settled position keep changing without another buyer appearing?

apparently settling that i'm the holder doesn't freeze the XSC in place. XSC/Zedger can still matter afterward because that same security can change what my holding looks like without changing who actually owns it.

and now i'm wondering if i was using “settled” to mean way too much.

DuskDS can already be completely done deciding that the XSC is mine.

and the XSC can still come back later and change what that ownership looks like.
