Looking back at @Dusk_Foundation , I suddenly realized that the network’s staking mechanism is still something that gets mentioned quite little.

Hyperstaking is what made me pause for longer. @Dusk_Foundation introduced this feature on 19/03/2025, at a time when the network had more than 270 node operators. The difference is that smart contracts can connect directly to the staking mechanism.

At first, I only saw Hyperstaking as a change at the technical layer. But when I put it together with how @Dusk_Foundation organizes staking, I saw more things worth noticing. To stake directly and run a node requires 1,000 $DUSK , while each epoch lasts 2,160 blocks. These limits open up room for developers to build applications with staking and delegation integrated directly.

The timeline here also caught my attention. #dusk started deploying mainnet at the end of 2024, while the first block was expected to operate on 07/01/2025. Just a few months later, Hyperstaking was introduced.

One timeline detail made me curious: Dusk reached mainnet at the end of 2024, then the first block was set for 07/01/2025. Not long after that, Hyperstaking appeared - quite early if you look at the network’s age.

Maybe this is simply the normal development process of a network that is still new. But I also think @Dusk_Foundation is moving in a broader direction: allowing applications to use staking as part of themselves, instead of putting the entire activity in the hands of node operators.

I still don’t know how far Hyperstaking has gone in practice.

One missing piece I still haven’t been able to fit into the same story is how much staking through contracts and staking from nodes each account for.
