Bitcoin, Gold & Bonds

I’m watching Bitcoin slip back toward $77,000 after challenging $80,000 overnight. Spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $606 million on Aug. 20, while Ether funds brought in $221 million—both higher than the previous day, highlighting the strength of institutional demand behind the recent Bitcoin rally.

Ray Dalio is also weighing in on the broader market. He pointed to Japan’s sale of U.S. government bonds to support the yen and its capital markets, rising U.S. bond yields alongside a weaker dollar, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s efforts to lower or cap yields.

Dalio’s takeaway is clear: “I suggest diversifying well in asset classes and countries that have strong income statements and balance sheets and are not having great internal political and external geopolitical conflicts.”

He also recommends “underweighting debt assets like bonds, and overweighting gold and a bit of bitcoin.” According to Dalio, allocating “maybe 10-15%” to gold could reduce portfolio risk while potentially improving returns.
