According to CNBC, Meta is facing a trial in which states want a court order forcing the company to remove certain addictive design features from Instagram and Facebook, including infinite scrolling, autoplaying videos, disappearing content such as Instagram Stories, beauty filters and algorithm-driven feeds. California Deputy Attorney General Megan O'Neill said in opening statements on Tuesday that Meta is prioritizing profit over safety and hiding the reality of under-13 users on its platforms. California Attorney General Rob Bonta said Meta is the first of several social-media companies facing legal action, with pending lawsuits against YouTube and Snap. Forrester principal analyst Kate Winick said the case could set a major precedent and lead to broader changes across the industry.
