I came across an old paper share certificate recently, and it got me thinking about something I usually don't consider when people talk about tokenization.

The paper itself was almost meaningless without everything around it.

Who owns it?
Can it be transferred?
Is the holder actually allowed to own it?
Who can verify the details?

All of those rules lived outside the piece of paper.

And I think tokenization can fall into the same trap.

Putting a stock, bond or other real-world asset on blockchain looks like a big step forward. But if the rules around ownership, eligibility, privacy and settlement still happen elsewhere, we've really just digitized the certificate.

The asset is onchain.

The market around the asset isn't.

That's the part of @Dusk_Foundation I've been finding more interesting. Dusk aims to go beyond a digital asset. It’s working to bring more of the financial process onchain controlled transfers, privacy, verification and final settlement.

And honestly, that sounds much harder than simply tokenizing an asset.

Because real financial markets have rules for a reason.

Some information should stay private. Some participants must prove eligibility. Transfers may need limits. And when something settles, there should be a clear record of what happened.

You can't solve all of that by putting a token on a blockchain and calling it a day.

That's why I'm starting to think the real value of tokenization isn't the token itself.

It's everything that has to happen around the token.

The interesting question for me now is:

Will the market actually wait for this deeper infrastructure or will the simpler “tokenize it and move on” approach keep getting most of the attention?

Because the difference might not look huge at first.

It becomes very obvious when someone asks:

“Okay, but who is allowed to own this, who can verify it, and what happens when something goes wrong?”

That's where I think Dusk has a much bigger problem to solve & potentially a much bigger opportunity.
