DUSK Isn’t Just an ERC20 Token I Looked at Where the Native Asset Actually Lives.
I used to see DUSK mainly as a token trading on Ethereum. Then I looked deeper into the Dusk ecosystem and realized there is an important distinction.
Dusk has its own Layer-1 network and DUSK is the native asset of that network. It is used for transaction fees and also plays a role in securing the network through staking.
The Ethereum version is an ERC20 representation of DUSK. There is also a BEP20 representation on the BNB Smart Chain. These versions make DUSK accessible across other ecosystems but they are not the same thing as the native Dusk asset.
My friend asked me why this distinction matters.
As I think it comes down to utility. A native asset is part of the network itself. It can be used to pay for activity on the chain and participate in the mechanism that helps secure the blockchain.
Dusk is building its own infrastructure for the regulated onchain finance. That includes confidential transactions, smart contracts and financial applications designed around tokenized assets.
So when I look at DUSK now I don't only see a market ticker. I see also the native asset connected to a Layer-1 that is being designed for a specific financial use case.
The important point is simple: DUSK can exist across the different networks as a representation but its native home is the Dusk Layer-1.
That distinction is easy to miss when you only look at the exchange charts.

Where do you think DUSK’s strongest utility comes from?
