Pulled up TermMax's DefiLlama page mid-afternoon, mostly to sanity-check TVL numbers for something else… and got stuck staring at one line instead. $31.22M total value locked, but $27.28M of that already sitting in active loans. That's something like 87% utilization. For a fixed-rate protocol that markets itself around "idle capital auto-deployed while you wait for a match," that's not what idle capital looks like at all.
TermMaxFi runs on this promise — lenders park funds, get routed into Morpho/Aave for floating yield until a fixed-rate order fills, then roll into the locked position. Nice story. But the utilization number says most of the pool isn't waiting around, it's already matched and working. Fees over the past 30 days sit around $19.9K on that TVL — small, almost quiet, which tells you this is still a base-layer mechanism, not a yield farm dressed up as one.
Hmm — I went in expecting to write about the "auto-parking" feature as the clever bit. Turns out the more interesting thing is how little parking actually happens once markets are seeded. The safety net rarely gets used because the primary function just… works.
Makes me wonder what utilization looks like on their newer chains (Berachain, BSquared) versus Ethereum, where most of that $TMX liquidity is concentrated. Anyone tracked that split yet?
