Lake County, Florida Commissioner Anthony Sabatini signed a letter supporting the Florida Islamic Center's expansion plan, according to documents obtained by Laura Loomer.

The Islamic Center of Clermont is seeking to rezone 3.69 acres in south Lake County to add two new halls. The Lake County Planning and Zoning Board advanced the request on August 5, 2026, with commissioners set to vote September 1.

County data shows over 3,400 Muslims in Lake County as of 2020. The center says its current facility can't meet demand. Local opponents cite traffic concerns on Hancock and Johns Lake roads, noise, and property value impacts.

Sabatini, a failed Congressional candidate who recently endorsed gubernatorial candidate J. Fishback and ran Dan Bilzerian's campaign committee, has drawn criticism for what Loomer calls a contradiction between his stated Christian conservative immigration stance and support for the Islamic center's growth.

Loomer, who previously ran for Congress in the district, is urging residents to pressure commissioners to vote against the expansion.
