I Read The Chainlink Announcement Looking For The Word That Mattered
Infrastructure deals get read for what they add. The more useful reading is usually what they make a chain dependent on, and that part tends to sit in a single adjective somewhere in the announcement.
On Dusk (@Dusk ) there are two. The November 2025 post says Dusk and NPEX are integrating Chainlink CCIP as our canonical cross-chain interoperability layer. A few lines up, DataLink will deliver official NPEX exchange data, serving as the exclusive on-chain data oracle for the platform.
Canonical and exclusive. Both words are Dusk's own, and they cover the two things a market venue cannot operate without, moving assets and knowing prices. One vendor now sits behind both.
I want to be fair about why this is defensible. Chainlink's CCIP has a separate risk management network running an independent codebase, it's been used in pilots by Swift and DTCC, and it has no publicly documented loss incident. Set that against bridges generally, which account for over 69 percent of DeFi funds stolen since 2022, more than 2.8 billion dollars. Ronin alone was around 625 million. Choosing hardened external infrastructure over a self-built bridge is a reasonable call.
It reads differently after January though. On the 17th Dusk paused its own bridge services following unusual activity involving a team-managed wallet used in bridge operations. Its own words. No user funds affected, and not a protocol-level issue.
None of it is live yet. DuskEVM is testnet, Dusk Trade is a waitlist, and NPEX does not appear in Chainlink's DataLink provider catalogue.
So when a chain built to remove intermediaries names one company as canonical and exclusive, what has actually been removed?
