One thing I really like about @Dusk’s Emergency Mode is that it feels designed for a very real problem: people can simply disappear from the network.

No attack. No malicious behavior. Just fewer participants showing up when consensus needs them.

Instead of letting the chain completely freeze, Dusk gives consensus multiple chances through different iterations. If one attempt doesn’t get enough participation, another can begin, giving the remaining provisioners more opportunities to agree.

And if things still don’t recover, Emergency Block Requests provide a fallback. Once enough stake supports the request, Dusk can create an empty emergency block.

What I find interesting is that this block isn’t about processing transactions. It’s basically a way to say: “The network is struggling, but we’re not stopping.”

It keeps the chain moving and creates a fresh seed for another attempt.

To me, that’s what makes the design stand out: Dusk plans for imperfect participation instead of assuming everyone will always be online.
