According to Jin10, the European Central Bank said the euro area’s current account surplus widened in June, driven mainly by higher primary income, including dividends, wages, and direct investment flows. Seasonally adjusted current account surplus rose to 35.1 billion euros in June from 25.8 billion euros in the previous month. Unadjusted data showed a surplus of 46.9 billion euros and a deficit of 6.1 billion euros. Over the 12 months through June, the euro area’s balance of payments surplus narrowed to 1.7% of GDP from 2.0% in the previous 12 months.
