The incident thread fades.
The dashboards turn green again.
But users don’t forget that quickly.
Months later, the same event can still shape audits, risk reviews, liquidity decisions, and which routes people are willing to touch.
I started seeing post mortems differently after looking at Dusk’s January 2026 bridge incident.
It wasn’t a protocol failure.
It was a compromised signing wallet on the bridge service.
They shut it down, published a clear post mortem, and reworked the architecture, separating signing from event handling and adding stronger recovery controls.
Technically, the fixes landed.
Yet the real question isn’t whether the code works again.
It’s whether capital trusts it enough to return.
Some routes get liquidity first.
Some face stricter limits.
Some take longer to regain confidence.
And nobody has to announce that trust is still missing.
You simply notice the volume isn’t fully back.
That’s why uptime alone no longer tells me much about bridge reliability.
The harder test is whether users eventually believe the system is safe again after they’ve already been given a reason to leave.
So when a bridge looks healthy on the surface, I keep asking:
Did trust actually return… or did people just learn to expect less?
