China’s July economic data delivered a broad-based disappointment, with industrial output, retail sales and fixed-asset investment all missing expectations. Industrial production grew 4.5% year over year, down from 5.3% in June, while retail sales rose just 0.6%, far below the 1.5% forecast.

Fixed-asset investment fell 6.7% in the first seven months, worsening from a 5.7% decline through June. The weak figures highlight slowing domestic demand and deepen pressure on Beijing to provide stronger policy support. Premier Li Qiang has already called for measures to boost consumption, employment and investment.
