I initially looked at TermMax through its fixed-rate market, but the deeper design is how it turns a leveraged position into a single on-chain Gearing Token (GT).
The GT records both collateral and debt, while the protocol uses Maximum LTV and Liquidation LTV parameters to control how much borrowing a position can support. That changes the operational side of leverage: instead of managing a chain of separate positions, the user has one instrument whose collateral and debt state can be tracked together.
Economically, this matters because leverage is not only about the entry rate. It is about how clearly risk is represented and managed after capital is deployed. TermMax also allows collateral to be added or removed as the position changes, while unhealthy positions can enter liquidation when the LTV threshold is breached.
The weakness is equally important: better position accounting cannot eliminate market risk. A sharp collateral move can still force liquidation and liquidity conditions can affect execution.
As an investor, I would watch how GT positions evolve over time, especially collateral changes, utilization and liquidation activity.
A reliable financial protocol makes risk visible before it becomes a loss.
