One detail in Dusk’s design completely shifted how I think about privacy on chain maybe hiding every single data point was never the point.
The split between Moonlight and Phoenix highlights this really well. Moonlight sticks to a standard, account based model that feels familiar, while Phoenix uses zero-knowledge proofs to let the network verify rules without blasting transaction details to the world.
That balance is huge for real-world finance. If you're dealing with regulated assets, you need to prove you're compliant, but that doesn't mean your private trade history belongs on a public ledger.
Still, there’s a real tradeoff here that gets ignored: privacy tech adds friction. If the tooling is clunky or the network behavior is unpredictable, developers just won't build on it. It doesn't matter how elegant the cryptography is if the dev experience is a nightmare.
